Legendary Whiskey Cocktails

Sazerac

To make a Sazerac you will need two bottom heavy, 3 ½ ounce bar glasses. Fill one with cracked ice and water and allow it to chill. In the other glass place a lump of sugar along with just enough water to dampen it. The saturated lump of sugar can then be flattened and crushed with a spoon. Add a couple of drops of bitters, a dash of Angostura, a hearty shot of whiskey, for while bourbon may suffice for a julep it is not appropriate for a genuine Sazerac. In the glass containing sugar, bitters, and whiskey add quite a few lumps of ice and stir. A shaker is not necessary to make this drink.

Next empty the first glass of ice, add in several drops of absinthe, swirl the glass around a few times, and shake out the absinthe. The perfect amount will cling to the glass to give the cocktail the necessary zest. Strain into this glass the whiskey concoction, twist a rind of lemon peel over it for some extra flavor, but do not drop the rind into the drink-the lemon peel will overpower the cocktail otherwise. Some bartenders add a cherry, which makes for a nice garnish but is not absolutely necessary.

Kentucky Whiskey Cocktail

The ingredients needed for this libation are the following: 1 generous shot of bourbon whiskey, 1 shot of unsweetened pineapple juice, and 1 lump of sugar.

Begin by dissolving the sugar in the pineapple juice. Add in the bourbon, then followed by some ice cubes. Stir, then strain into a serving glass.

This cocktail can be made with whiskey, but then it would not be a true Kentucky Whiskey Cocktail, although the name might suggest something different. Some make this cocktail with orange juice instead of pineapple while some use sweetened pineapple juice. In the case of sweetened pineapple juice, the lump of sugar may not be needed.

Old Fashioned Cocktail

1 lump of sugar
2 dashes of bitters
1 large shot of whiskey
1 lemon peel
1 chunk of pineapple
1 orange peel
1 maraschino cherry

Add the sugar lump and bitters into a bottom heavy glass and muddle. Pour in the shot of whiskey and stir with several ice cubes. Do not use a shaker-allow the mixture to remain in the glass it was first mixed in. Garnish with the orange peel, chunk of pineapple, and the cherry with a dash of the maraschino juice. Twist the slice of lemon peel over everything and serve with a spoon.

Although this cocktail is indeed old fashioned it is as appealing to good taste now as it was on Derby Day a half century ago when the originator first stirred it into being at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Old Fashioned has been a New Orleans tradition for countless years and when other whiskey drinks with fancy names have come and gone, the Old Fashioned will continue to entertain experienced palates. Do not try and use gin, rum, or brandy to take the place of whiskey in an Old Fashioned. An authentic Old Fashioned demands whiskey and a sturdy bar coaster.

Blue Blazer

1 lump of sugar
1 large shot of Scotch whiskey
1 shot of hot water

Have two mugs on hand and in one, dissolve the lump of sugar in the hot water. Next add the whiskey; be sure it’s a quality brand with a high alcohol percentage, for it has to burn. Then carefully ignite the mixture. Hold the burning mug in one hand, then empty the fluid rapidly from one container to the other so that a streak of blue flame connects the two. Serve in a glass that is appropriate for hot liquid after twisting a bit of lemon peel over the mixture and topping with a grating of nutmeg. It is recommended to place the hot drink on a stone coaster of some kind to avoid damaging the surface it is resting on.

If you have cold feet, chattering teeth, the shivers, or frozen fingers, and want to warm up, you can thaw out no better than with a Blue Blazer.

This drink was a popular alcoholic drink aboard the lavish paddle-wheeled steamboats that churned the waters of the Mississippi during the time the Natchez and Robert E. Lee made history in upstream races to Saint Louis. The bartenders were expert in transferring the blue-flamed liquid from one mug to another, accomplishing the task with an agility that kept the flames from singeing their beards and moustaches before deftly placing the burning drink down on the patron’s drink coaster!

Cocktails ? The fun starts here

There is no better way to get a party swinging that to serve cocktails. Whether you are running a bar, pub, hotel or restaurant; or just want to celebrate with friends there is no better way than with a cocktail night.

The advantages of cocktails is that they are so varied and different it is possible to find a cocktail for everybody’s tastes. So no matter what the clientele to your bar or pub, or the type of guests that you invite you should be able to find something for nearly everybody’s tastes; and you don’t need too many bar accessories either.

What is a cocktail

A cocktail is just an alcoholic drink that contains more than one ingredient. Usually cocktails contain a mixture of alcohol and fruit based drinks but nearly anything can go in a cocktail. Often cocktails are served in long glasses or with special cocktail glasses. Commonly, garnish such as cherries, olives or umbrellas are used to add a touch of glamour to the cocktail.

Types of cocktail

There are many famous names of cocktails. Each with its own history and unique taste. Here are some of the most commonly produced cocktails:

* Screwdriver
* Manhattan
* Black Russian
* Gin Sour
* Sex on the Beach
* Pina Colada
* Harvey Wallbanger

Preparing Cocktails

Cocktails are either shaken or stirred. All cocktails need to be mixed properly as alcohol and fruit juices have different densities which could mean the ingredients could separate without a good shake of mix-up.

What cocktail equipment do I need

Preparing cocktails is quite simple and doesn’t require too much speciality bar equipment. The most basic cocktail equipment needed, includes:

Cocktail stirrers and shakers – for mixing the drinks. It is an idea to look for stainless steel shakers and stirrers and these are more hygienic and easy to clean.

Cocktail glasses – while any tall glass will do, cocktail glasses can created that added extra touch.

Ice and bucket – nearly all cocktails require ice so good supply of ice and an ice bucket to prevent it from melting is essential.

Garnish -umbrellas, cocktail sticks, olives, cherries. In fact all sorts of things can be used as a garnish for cocktails.

The Beginner?s Guide to Mixing Drinks

It might be that you have decided to broaden your taste in drinks and now, instead of drinking only the bottled brews, you want to try to mix your own drinks. On the whole, mixing your own drinks is simple if you have the knowledge and the right instruments to help you along. There are many mixed drink recipes available on the internet and in books that will allow you to be the hit of the party and provide all your guests with the essentials of a good alcoholic beverage.

The most important aspect of a mixed drink is to use the best alcohol and not the cheaper varieties. The name brands cost more for a reason. If you have a budget and are limited to what you can start with, choose the two or three mixed drinks that are your favorite and buy what you need to make them. As time goes on, you can pick up one or two extra bottles of something new to add to your collection. Once you are fully stocked, you will only need to replace the bottles as you use them.

The best way to learn how to mix drinks is to learn some of the more prominent terms associated with it. This will make recipes much easier for you to understand.

1.	Blend – simply put, add the ingredients to a blender and go.

2.	Cocktail Shaker – an essential tool in allowing drinks to be shaken properly without making a mess. It is usually made from a stainless steel and usually has a glass that fits in the top of the lid. Add the ice and the mixed drink ingredients to the shaker add the glass to the lid and shake. When complete, tip the shaker to fill the glass and serve.

3.	Dash – A dash of something means to add a small amount of your ingredient. In real measure, it is about a fourth of a teaspoon.

4.	Glassful – Again a very vague estimate but you can safely say that it means a full glass.

5.	To Shake – This term means the ingredients of the drink is added to the shaker listed above and shake contents about five to six times to mix properly.

6.	Stir – you can use a long handled spoon or an especially designed stirrer to get this effect. Some drinks will ask that you stir the ice in the drink and then remove the ice for the final results.

7.	To Strain – To accomplish this mixed drink requirement, you will need a small strainer. The strainer will allow the liquid through but hold the ice back in an easy way.

Now you know some of the more basic terms that are essential parts of mixing drinks, you only need a good recipe to start creating your one and only masterpiece for yourself and your guests. Some of the better recipes are available for printing right from the internet. For those who can spend a little bit of money, recipe books will add a nice touch to the décor of the home bar and give you a readily accessible guide.

Reunited and it feels so goooood. Nick kissed his momma goodbye yesterday and hopped on a jetplane back to Seattle. Welcome, home! In related airport news, Kevin was sad to drop off his foster mother at the airport Sunday, but had a blast with her. Thanks for loving us so good, ladies! We Unicorn Booty boys know how lucky we are to have such amazing women in our corner routing us on. Sarah and Terri aren’t just our biggest cheerleaders, they are also invaluable business assets, and we couldn’t do it without them. If your mother is even a fraction as wonderful as ours are, you had better take advantage of those UB coupon codes listed below to send something sweet to your #1 for Mother’s Day. It’s getting close! Today’s pearl prize: Booty-shakingly sweet swag from SHAKERS Vodka Hey bartender! What’s a fluorescent pink, rainbow-mohawked unicorn with size 14 hooves have to do to get a drink around here? SHAKERS Vodka is back in the Unicorn Booty corral to make that answer a little easier for everyone today. Ever since discovering SHAKERS, we’ve been obsessed. SHAKERS has won us over in a big way. We ask for it by name, and if a bar doesn’t have SHAKERS, we tell them they need to start carrying it. Kevin is a SHAKERS and tonic man, through and through. And will wonders never cease? Nick has put down the cheap-o lite beer and started ordering SHAKERS and grapefruit. SHAKERS; we’re into it! We can’t give away free vodka (It’s against the law!), but one lucky fan is getting a top …
